1.) Yes, i do think that she will make the team. It's said that she feels a wave of calm come over that can be taken as a positive event coming.

2.) The weather changes throughout the passage. From one moment the weather is gloomy and sad and then it's happy and bright, showing that it's better and going right finally.

3.) One common way to show the changing moods in a passage or story is to change the way foreshadowing is heading is to change the weather.
